Australian Duo Royel Otis Share Melancholy Indie Pop Gem "Moody"

Australian indie pop duo Royel Otis—comprised of Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic—are back with a catchy new single, "Moody," released on Friday, May 9, 2025. The track, which the band simply describes as "a song about a girl," is a perfect example of their knack for crafting irresistible hooks and breezy melodies.

"Moody" wasn't a solo effort. The duo teamed up with a pair of heavyweight collaborators to bring the song to life. They co-wrote the track with Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Allen, who has penned hits for everyone from Harry Styles to Sabrina Carpenter. The song was then produced by Blake Slatkin, known for his work with a diverse roster of artists including Gracie Abrams, Omar Apollo, and Charli XCX. This dream team collaboration has resulted in a track that is polished and infectious, all while retaining the band's signature charm.

To celebrate the release, Royel Otis recently performed two sold-out shows at the iconic Troubadour in Los Angeles. The momentum doesn't stop there. The duo is hitting the road for their "meet me in the car tour" across major North American cities. They'll also be a fixture on the festival circuit this summer, with scheduled performances at some of the world's biggest events, including Governor's Ball, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Glastonbury, and Reading and Leeds.

The visualizer for "Moody" is already a hit on YouTube, racking up over 15,000 views in just a few days. The song has been met with enthusiastic reception from both critics and fans alike, and it's easy to see why. "Moody" is a vibrant, sun-soaked anthem that feels like the perfect soundtrack to the summer ahead.
