Soft Play: Stripping Down to Their Core with "Heavier Jelly
"Heavier Jelly": Soft Play's Stripped-Down Punk PowerSoft Play, formerly known as Slaves (a wise rebrand), are an English punk duo formed in Royal Tunbridge Wells in 2012 by Isaac Holman (lead vocals, drums) and Laurie Vincent (backing vocals, guitar, bass). After building a strong following (who saw them at Old Blue Last?) and releasing several albums under their previous name, they changed their moniker to Soft Play in 2022 due to the unwanted connotations of their original name. Their music is characterized by its high-energy punk rock sound, often with elements of hardcore and alt-metal, tackling social and political themes with a raw and direct approach.
Their new album, titled Heavy Jelly, was released on April 19, 2025. The video for the title track, "Heavier Jelly," features the band performing the song live in a stripped-down, raw setting. The visuals emphasize their energetic performance style and the gritty nature of their music. The video seems to capture the band in their element, delivering their powerful sound directly to the viewer without elaborate production. It highlights the intensity and chemistry between Holman and Vincent, which are central to Soft Play's live shows and overall musical identity.
