Ydegirl & RIP Swirl: A Potent Collaboration on new song,“TMN”
The artistic pairing of Ydegirl (Andrea Novel) and RIP Swirl (Luka Seifert) has yielded a captivating sound, prominently featured in their recent EP, "Emo Regulation," and its brooding track, "TMN." Ydegirl, a Danish artist, brings a distinctive, haunting blend of deconstructed alt-rock to the collaboration, while Berlin-based RIP Swirl infuses the mix with his eclectic style, incorporating experimental dance, trip-hop, and even a little shoegaze.
Their collaboration, which blossomed after an Instagram connection and Ydegirl's move to Berlin in 2021, has proven mutually beneficial. It allows RIP Swirl to explore vocal-centric compositions and Ydegirl to find new expressive freedoms in her singing. The "Emo Regulation" EP, released on May 15, 2025, showcases their seamless fusion of pop, indie rock, and trip-hop textures. The single "TMN," released on May 7, 2025, highlights Ydegirl's poignant vocals over RIP Swirl's expert production, with lyrics like "I'm breaking up inside, but you have no clue. I hide the cracks in the folds of my smile." While a traditional music video for "TMN" isn't available, its visualizer offers a glimpse into their evocative sonic world.
